Wholistic Hound Academy - "Positive Training - Powerful Results!"
About Us

Sandy Modell, Canine Behavior Specialist and Founder and Head Trainer at Wholistic Hound is expanding her training services with the opening of the Wholistic Hound Academy in early 2017. Sandy has been training dogs using reward based positive reinforcement methods for over 20 years. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), a licensed Family Paws Parent Educator (FPPE), a member of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), and on the list of national Truly Dog-Friendly Trainers.
Our mission is simple: to help people and their dogs discover the results and rewards of positive training. Positive training emphasizes rewards instead of punishment, thereby building trusting partnerships between dogs and people. Our humane methods include clicker training, an approach that is gets results and is motivating, fast, and fun. Positive reinforcement techniques can help you to teach new behaviors quickly, communicate with your dog, and increase your dog’s problem solving skills.
Our purpose is: to teach people and dogs to live in harmony.  A combination of humane training methods, management, behavior modification, and benevolent leadership is used to train life skills and good manners and prevent many of the very normal doggy problems that often lead to backyard banishment or to the shelter.  We believe in using and promoting dog-friendly training methods and techniques that teach your dog how to live appropriately in your home so you can enjoy your dog and develop a rewarding, lifelong relationship.
Our values are: first and foremost to do no harm. Compulsion methods and equipment such as choke chains, prong collars and shock collars are not necessary in dog training and will never be used. Instead, reward based training methods based on the simple application of the principles of learning will be used to teach your dog good behaviors, manners, and foundation and advanced skills.  These are the same positive reinforcement methods that have been used by zoos, marine mammal trainers and animal actor trainers with great success for several decades now.
