Sandy Modell, the Leader of the Pack at Wholistic Hound, has been training dogs using reward based positive reinforcement methods for 18 years. She is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and on the list of national Truly Dog-Friendly Trainers.
Our mission is simple: to help dogs and people discover the results and rewards of positive training. Positive training emphasizes rewards instead of punishment, thereby building trusting partnerships between dogs and people. Our humane methods include clicker training, an approach that is motivating, fast, and fun. Positive reinforcement techniques can help you to teach new behaviors quickly, communicate with your dog, and increase your dog’s problem solving skills.
Our purpose is: to teach pet dog owners how to train their canine companions to be well mannered members of the family. We teach you to think in terms of what you want your dog to do, not what you want them not to do. A combination of humane training methods, management, behavior modification, and benevolent leadership is used to correct or prevent many of the very normal doggie problems that often lead to backyard banishment or to the shelter. We believe in using and promoting dog-friendly training methods to help you form a bond with your dog that will develop into a rewarding, lifelong relationship.
Our values are: first and foremost to do no harm. Compulsion methods and equipment such as choke chains, prong collars and shock collars are not necessary in dog training and will never be used. Instead, reward based training methods based on the simple application of the principles of learning will be used to teach your dog how to behave appropriately. These are the same positive reinforcement methods that have been used by zoos, marine mammal trainers and animal actor trainers with great success for several decades now.
